Positive flight news

Mum,

Today's positive thought is this: I've booked flights to come over around the week of my birthday. I'm planning to spend some time in Gainsborough and some in Hereford. Can't wait to see you and everyone. I,ll give you exact dates this weekend over Skype.

Olympic positive thought

Mum,

I was thinking about the Winter Olympics today and came across this link. I'm not sure if it will show up on your email or the blog as a link you can click or not. If not, you can copy and paste into an internet browser or go to Wikipedia and search for creative visualization.

Anyway, it's a tool a lot of Olympic athletes use to visualize things they want to happen and focus on how to get there. It's also used in a lot of positive thinking type programs. I'm not sure if the CBT does anything like this, but during the Olympics it came to mind.

Good things about CBT

Mum,

I haven't sent a thought over in a couple of days because you've had Pete and Rach there and lots going on. However, I thought it might be nice to send something today before your first CBT. Here's something I was reading that I thought was useful: 

Advantages of CBT

  • Research has shown CBT can be as effective as medicine in treating many types of depression and other mental health disorders.
  • CBT can be completed in a relatively short period of time compared with other types of talking therapies.
  • The highly structured nature of CBT means it can be provided in different formats, including in groups, self-help books and computer programs.
  • Skills you learn in CBT are useful, practical and helpful strategies that can be incorporated into everyday life to help you cope better with future stresses and difficulties.
